It is reported that pre-production on Project Orion, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, won’t begin next year too. This was made clear by CEO Adam Kiciński who mentioned that the new Boston studio will begin development on the next Cyberpunk game soon after the release of Phantom Liberty. Rather than pre-production, as with Phantom Liberty, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will enter the research phase in 2024. What this indicates, to put it more clearly, is that we should probably anticipate another six or seven years passing before the release of the next Cyberpunk game. Between the time that Cyberpunk was announced and when it came out, The Witcher 3 was also released, so there may be some good in this for all of those people who are fans of The Witcher series. Some developers will be leaving to join The Witcher 4, (codenamed Project Polaris) which is why the team will be downsized. It is important to note here that the next progressive installment in The Witcher series is not yet named officially. As soon as Phantom Liberty is released, the majority of its employees will go on to work on The Witcher franchise, which means fewer people will be available to work on Project Orion. However, it’s worth noting that CDPR seems to be doing everything it can to get The Witcher 4 out as soon as possible, based on the information at hand. We will continue to provide updates on the game when new information becomes available, but for the time being, be sure to check back on December 14 for the release of the next-gen update for The Witcher 3.
